August 21

I came home from work Friday, August 21 ready for a nap. Getting 5 hours of sleep a night just doesn't cut it for me. So, after fiddling around for a little over an hour I snuggled into my blanket and fell asleep on the couch.

I woke up to a dozen roses and a little box. I was groggy, confused... After being directed by Dan to open the box I saw a little gold ring, in a heart shape with tiny diamonds in the center of the heart. My confusion mounted when I read the note.

The note was short, sweet, thoughtful. I expect nothing less from D. He wanted me to accept this Promise Ring to show our commitment to each other. I look at him a little him and ask, "Umm... what made you want to give me a promise ring?" I mean really, aren't we beyond that point? (I thought and did not speak that part.) His response was, "Aren't you going to put the ring on?"

Ok, sure I'll put it on.

At this point he is laughing. Laughing pretty uncontrollably. He explains that the ring is a joke. Walks over and gives me

Ahhh! Much better! Actually, more than I ever expected. I was more confused over the promise ring idea than the actually Target discount ring he gave me. He had this one designed for us. He said the blue sapphires were chosen because they stand for loyalty and forever. Also, one of the smallest diamonds came from his grandmother's ring. So very thoughtful.

So, now we are going to try to plan the cheapest spring wedding ever. Even though I swore I'd never survive the stress of an outdoor wedding (rain?!?!), Destin, FL is looking like our best option.

  1. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!I am so excited for you! 1. That ring is absolutely stunning. I love what the sapphires stand for and they also remind me of how ridiculously blue your eyes are.
    2. As I was reading, I did not know what to think about the promise ring. I was already thinking about my comment and deciding whether or not I should offer congratulations on something like that. Good looks and a sense of humor. I'm impressed.
